Tell Congress: 20% Down Payments Put the American Dream Out of Reach

Could your clients afford a 20% down payment? Could you? Can you envision what your prospective client pool will look like if new regulations governing Qualified Residential Mortgages (QRM) take effect this year?

I just took action to ask Congress to help us get this proposed regulation changed. This QRM issue is very important to keeping the dream of home ownership alive in America and keeping our already struggling markets on the path to recovery.

I urge you to add your voice by sending this letters to your Senators and Representative today.

Progress Report: Beyond Hospitals

  In Focus: BioDistrict New Orleans

We have jump-started 2011 with some very significant events. On January 14th, we kicked off the year with the BioTech II Summit and Luncheon at the Westin Hotel. This daylong meeting provided an update on the work begun by the New Orleans Regional Biosciences Initiative in 2007. Highlights of the summit included remarks from Senator Karen Carter-Peterson and Dr. James Richardson, as well as discussions on the BioDistrict's Master Planning activities.

There's much to look forward to in 2011 including; the groundbreaking of the University Medical Center, the grand openings of the BioInnovation Center and the International Soft Landing Center in April, and the Louisiana Cancer Research Center in September. Our City will also be hosting the Association of University Research Parks' 25th International Convention from November 30th through December 2nd.

With your support and participation we will continue to work toward the development of a world-class bioscience industry in New Orleans. I look forward to sharing many more successes with you through the course of this year, and please don't hesitate to contact me with your suggestions or questions.

JAMES P. MCNAMARA
PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

BioTech II Summit and Luncheon

Four years after the development of the New Orleans Regional Biosciences Initiative, presenters at the January 14th Summit described ongoing local efforts to foster academic and medical research, and the potential this research and its related industries have to revolutionize our region's economy. Presentations from the summit can be viewed and downloaded from the BioDistrict Website.

Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives (HAFA)

Dear Clients,

Here are a few links to learn more about the Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives (HAFA) program.  HAFA usually involves a short sale which means the property is sold for less that the total indebtedness on the property.   Besides streamlining the process it does release the successful HAFA borrower from future liability for the debt. Also under the program, homeowners can receive $3,000 to help with relocation costs.

Before choosing HAFA many homeowners consider the Housing Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) if they are able and want to keep the property.
